Section 504 - Protecting Students with Disabilities

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), as amended, is designed to eliminate discrimination based on disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. This act requires that no qualified student who demonstrates a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one (or more) major life activity shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be subject to discrimination in any program or activity offered by Warren County Public Schools. Eligibility under Section 504 is determined by a school-based team, chaired by the assistant principal or designee. Any student eligible under Section 504 will have a uniquely developed plan that includes the necessary support for the student to have an equal opportunity to access school programs and activities.  For more information on Section 504 please contact Pupil Services at 540-635-5422.
